Angelique
Uy

In
early September 2004, Angelique and her husband were in New York
City celebrating their 1 year wedding anniversary. Throughout
the trip, Angelique was experiencing persistent chest pains and
was only able to eat with the help of medication. After returning
from
New York and no longer being able to bear the pain, Angelique was
admitted to hospital. Two weeks later she was diagnosed with Stage
II Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma.
Angelique
immediately underwent a series of chemotherapy treatments in
combination with an antibody drug.
Over the next several months,
Angelique lost her hair, felt very fatigued and suffered from a
low blood cell count with resulted in constant flu-like symptoms.
Through
it all, Angelique’s spirits remained upbeat, ever referring
to herself as “G.I. Ange” after losing her hair.
In
April 2005, Angelique completed all her treatments and felt better
and healthier than ever. Under the watchful eye of her oncologist,
Angelique completed her first half marathon in Toronto Commemorating
the anniversary of her diagnosis two years earlier. Four weeks
later,
Angelique went on to San Francisco to her completer her first
Team In Training event.
